LdBICE Student Bursary Recipient Announcement!

The Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby is proud to celebrate two outstanding local students who have been awarded this year’s $1,000 LdBICE Student Bursaries to support their post-secondary education.   Congratulations to Ainsley and Kaisee! We’re honored to support your journeys and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in the world of education.

Ainsley Van Linden

Lac du Bonnet Senior School

On Friday, June 20th, Ainsley was awarded a $1,000 bursary to assist with her studies in the BA/B.Ed Integrated Program at Brandon University. Ainsley has been inspired by her own positive educational experiences growing up in Lac du Bonnet and plans to return to a smaller community—much like her hometown—to teach middle years students after graduation. Her goal is to give back to the kind of environment that shaped her love for learning and education.

 Kaisee Witnicki

École Edward Schreyer School

On Tuesday, June 24th, Kaisee received a $1,000 bursary to support her educational journey at Dakota College in Bottineau, North Dakota, where she is focusing on education. Kaisee chose this field of study because she is passionate about working with high-needs children, using both academics and sport to help them succeed. She believes that teaching children early on how to cope with learning disabilities gives them essential tools to build a strong foundation and apply these skills throughout their academic careers.

BURSARY HISTORY:

In 2016, the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby Committee began the LDB ICE Student Bursary Program. Since its inception, the Committee has awarded $16,000 to 16 deserving students pursuing post-secondary education.

LDB ICE STUDENT BURSARIES

The purpose of this bursary is to provide Financial Aid to a deserving student enrolled in continued education where the field of study will have possible relevance or benefit to the Lac du Bonnet Region. Each year the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby Committee will give up to two Bursaries of up to one thousand ($1000.00) each to a deserving student based on relevance, need, and the availability of funds from the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby.

BURSARY CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES

The Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby Bursary program supports Lac du Bonnet and area students entering post-secondary studies and:

  • Should focus on a field of study which will provide education and training which has need and relevance in Lac du Bonnet.

  • The student applicant should have a level of academic achievement such that they will have a reasonable chance of success in their chosen field of study.

Applications from part-time students, students continuing their post-secondary education past the first year, and applications for special courses will be also be considered.
